Bay Area Daylily Society Main Events Calendar:
• Monthly meetings are held from September through May.
• Community service events are held periodically.
• A holiday potluck dinner party is held in December.
• First Bloom Picnic is held in May.
The Bay Area Daylily Society meets on the third Saturday of each month from September through May at a variety of locations throughout the Tampa Bay area. Occasionally the club holds a combination meeting / field trip to take advantage of activities throughout the area (examples are Selby Gardens in Sarasota and the Gulf Coast Museum of Art). Club members are notified via email prior to each meeting regarding the meeting topics and location. If you are not a club member, but would like to attend a meeting, click on the CONTACTS section to send an e-mail or to get the location and directions for the next meeting.
The annual show and plant sale is held on the first Saturday in May. Admission to the show and sale is free and open to the public. BADS club members and non-club members are encouraged to bring the best daylily examples from their garden as entries into the show. Opportunity abounds for show volunteers to participate in activities such as preparation and labeling, answering questions during the sale, assisting with sales, setting up the show area, assisting the judges and closing the show.
•the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS) accredits the show. Note: only AHS members are eligible for awards and/or ribbons.
• Proceeds from the plant sale are used for community projects and club activities throughout the year.
An annual holiday potluck luncheon is held in December. The club provides the main course and members bring their favorite dish. We also have a "dirty Santa" gift exchange with a gift limit of $10. This has been a hit for the past few years we have had it.
An annual potluck picnic opens the daylily blooming season in May. The picnic is usually held at one of the daylily gardens in the area where you can feast on great food and view a huge variety of daylilies in bloom. The club provides the main course. Plants can be purchased from the grower. This is a great opportunity to discuss favorite plants, ask questions and share experiences with fellow gardeners.
We also participate in community service events throughout the year. For example, the Bay Area Daylily Society has donated daylilies to gardens on the grounds of the Gulf Coast Museum of Art and the University of South Florida (Botanical Gardens), and Sunken Gardens.
Join the club, attend a meeting, a field trip or participate in our Annual Show and Plant Sale. We'd love to see you!
